Housing manager and family evicted in Daru

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK - The National

A NATIONAL Housing Corporation manager has been evicted from her home for allegedly failing to pay rent, a move Housing Minister John Kaupa says he is not aware of.
Lily Loloea, who manages the corporation branch in Daru, Western, and her family were evicted from their home on Saturday.
South Fly police commander Chief Inspector Brian Kombe said they assisted two officers from the NHC headquarters in Port Moresby to evict Loloea from the property for allegedly failing to pay outstanding rental of K6000.
“We have a letter dated Dec 4, 2018 from the acting NHC southern region manager Jim Tepi instructing the police to assist in her eviction from the NHC house at Section 6 Lot 12 in Daru,” he said.
“So two officers from the NHC headquarters in Port Moresby came to Daru and evicted her with police assistance on Saturday.”
Kaupa denied any knowledge of Loloea’s eviction.
“No, I’m not aware of Lily Loloea’s eviction from the NHC house in Daru,” he said.
Kaupa said he would find out from NHC officers why Loloea and her family were evicted on Saturday, forcing them to be without a home during Christmas.
Kombe said he too was surprised by the eviction instruction.
“I just resumed command last week. I was surprised by this eviction and checked with my officers.”
He was then informed about the letter from Tepi. Kombe vowed that there will be no more eviction under his watch.
“The eviction of Loloea is the last one. I have now given instructions that police will not be assisting in any eviction from NHC houses.”
Meanwhile, Daru town Mayor Samuel Winggu said the eviction of Loloea had resulted in the damaging of important NHC properties records and files.
“The documents were in her houses and got thrown out during the eviction,” Winggu said.
